Jamie McLean Band New Haven Concert reviews
He's still got it!
His voice is still as strong and melodious as ever, with those iconic little dance moves sprinkled into most songs. Sometimes, I'd have trouble distinguishing the last note of one song from the first note of the next. He doesn't mess around with a lot of small talk. I love that he lays out a steady stream of his hits, along with a couple of Waylon songs as a tribute, rather than some unknown songs he wants to try out on the audience.
I'd sure love to know the name of his second opening band. The first was Midland (excellent, by the way). The lead singer of the other band, which I didn't catch the name of, reminded me of Buddy Holly, but with cowboy duds. I would have enjoyed a concert that just featured those two groups, but that's not taking anything away from Mr. Jamie McLean Band. He made the evening special.
I was a little disappointed that he left "I Sang Dixie" off of his song list. The guy to my right conjectured that it might have something to do with his striving to be politically correct. Hell, I'm a Yankee, and I can't imagine what political correctness would have to do with that.
If he was in the area again tonight, I'd go see Jamie McLean Band. He puts out a good show. I'm not an enormous fan of country, but he's my kind.
